Join us for an evening artist talk with Austin Uzor! Uzor will be giving an artist talk about his art and process on Thursday, October 21st, 2021. Tickets for the event are available for $5.
Austin Uzor is a rising talent whose moody and atmospheric works are quietly revolutionizing the potential of contemporary painting.
In his first solo exhibition, post-graduate school, Uzor transforms the gallery’s entire first floor into a site-specific installation by building an immersive environment out of painting and sculpture.
For New Meanings, he reimagines a new space that exists beyond the confines of the self and the different worlds that we all move around in.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Nigeria, Augustine “Austin” Uzor (b. 1991) is an interdisciplinary artist whose works combine traditional media like drawing, painting, and sculpture to reconstruct ephemeral installations drawn from his experiences. In 2016, Uzor immigrated to the United States of America which informs much of the work he produces now. His art touches upon the autobiographical themes of home, memory, dislocation, and the reconciliation of one’s identity through the creative process.
In 2013, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2021, Uzor earned a Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. His works are exhibited worldwide in public art spaces and private collections.
