In this functional basketry class, Sarita will lead participants through the process of weaving loose reed into a beautiful basket. Participants will follow a basketry pattern to weave a flat reed basket step by step, building the base of the basket, weaving the walls, and finishing the rim. Students will integrate both minimal color and woven patterns into their basket using dyed black and natural reed. Instruction will focus on covering basic techniques such as start/stop row, twining, plaiting, twill, and lashing. Basket will measure approximately 9" wide x 12" long x 10.5" tall. First-time weavers and intermediate weavers are both welcome.
Kit includes:
3/8" black flat reed spoke
1/4" natural flat reed weavers
#2 round reed weavers
3/8" black flat reeds for rim
clothes pins
Students will need to provide:
Jewelry Pliers/ Cutters - for cutting reed close to the surface of the basket
Needle nose Pliers - for crimping the reed
Flat head screwdriver - for tucking in spokes
Measuring tape - for measuring the base
