Ballet North Texas Presents The Nutcracker

Moody Performance Hall

Ballet North Texas celebrates the magic of the season and the return to live performances with their annual production of The Nutcracker along with the additional production of * The Nutcracker, A Sensory Friendly Performance.

The Nutcracker is a story about the magic of childhood and incorporates German folklore that promises the Nutcracker’s ability to bring good luck and guard against evil. BNT’s Nutcracker is told in the best tradition.  The heroine of the BNT’s story is a young girl named Clara who receives a Nutcracker from her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer. She and the Nutcracker fight a ferocious battle with the Mouse King and are victorious! The Nutcracker delivers Clara to the Land of the Sweets where she is greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court, and is celebrated for her triumph over evil.

The Nutcracker is one of the most performed ballets in the United States. Not only is it usually the first stage experience of a young dancer, but the Sugar Plum Fairy is many times referred to as the ambassador of ballet, as she is for many young Americans the first ballet dancer they encounter.

The Nutcracker, A Sensory Friendly Performance - Ballet North Texas is proud to, again, have the funding opportunity to provide their SFP series beginning with this season’s sensory sensitive Nutcracker. Sensory Friendly Performances offer accommodations, striving to provide an environment that is nonjudgmental and supportive, coupled with performance modifications and changes in behavioral expectations. Patrons may freely respond to shows in their own way and without judgment, and are welcome to do things like sing or dance. A variety of other modifications help to provide a comfortable environment: omission of strobe lights and sudden loud noises, relaxed house rules, reduction of sound levels, and elimination of startling special effects. Sensory Friendly Performances have a welcoming environment for families with young children, young first time performance goers, or those with sensory sensitivities.
