Shoot Film with a Brownie Hawkeye

Dallas Center for Photography

This is an in-person and virtual event

George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, coined the advertising slogan, “You push the button, and we’ll do the rest.” DCP is adopting that philosophy for this unique workshop. All cameras, supplies, and processing are provided!

The Brownie Hawkeye camera is stylish, easy to use and just fun to shoot with. It was introduced in 1949 and ushered in a golden age of photography. In this workshop, we’ll first get together online for a short class to go over some of the joys and challenges of shooting with such a simple camera. A couple of days later we’ll meet on location to shoot with a refurbished Brownie Hawkeye and a specially modified roll of 120 film. There are only 12 photos on a roll, so this will be a different experience for most! Fewer frames can actually lead to greater creativity.

When we meet back online a few days later, the instructor will go over scans of everyone’s film. After the class, you’ll receive your processed film, digital scan, and a digital contact sheet.

This workshop is the perfect activity to do with kids, friends or spouses!

Film is generously provided by Don’s New and Used Photo Equipment.
