Paella Y Passion

TyPo Park

This is an in-person event

Flamenco Fever presents Paella y Pasion on Sunday, June 6th featuring live dance and music performances by local studios and fresh paella prepared on the spot by local chefs.  Paella y Pasion, for four years the crowd-pleasing opening event of the annual Oak Cliff Flamenco Festival has been held in the fall.  Now, it has been moved to spring as a stand-alone event to build new audiences, create flamenco momentum, and raise much needed funds for the Oak Cliff Flamenco Festival 2021 in early September.

Paella y Pasion is also the finale of the 6th annual 'Flamenco de Mayo' series that provides low-cost performances for festivals, restaurants, and schools that want to celebrate Hispanic culture near the Cinco de Mayo Holiday.

“Paella y Pasion bridges the access gap between traditional flamenco performances in formal venues and economically diverse local audiences who customarily have limited or no access to such venues. This family-friendly, outdoor event provides beginning flamenco dancers, singers, and guitarists a relaxed atmosphere to perform and learn from more experienced artists,” said Julia Alcántara, founder of Ida y Vuelta Flamenco Dance Company and Flamenco Fever. “My passion is building a sustainable flamenco community in Dallas by growing our audience, encouraging artists, and creating camaraderie between dance studios.”

Paella is a classic Spanish rice dish made with rice, saffron, vegetables, chicken, and seafood cooked and served in one pan. Bowls of paella will be available for $20 and come paired with a silk flower, polka dot scarf or fan to help patrons get in the flamenco mood. Audience members are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for this picnic style event.  The stage area is free to enter. For those who do not plan to enjoy the cooking demonstration, they can still enjoy the performance. A donation is requested.

This event is outdoors and will feature hand sanitizing stations and social distancing signage to encourage a safe environment.

Participating studios and guest artists to be announced.
