NIght on the Trinity

AT&T Performing Arts Center - Strauss Square

Ballet North Texas opens their 2020/21 season with Night on the Trinity at Annette Strauss Square. This outdoor venue is adjusted to accommodate social distancing to keep our patrons, dancers, and staff as safe as possible, as well as the performance being altered to one act avoiding intermission crowds.

Night on the Trinity is a celebration of diverse choreography and original music composition from local and national artists including: Kiyon Gaines Ross, former soloist of Pacific Northwest Ballet; guest performances by Bruce Wood Dance and Ballet Frontier of Texas; two world premieres by Artistic Director, Nicolina Lawson and Associate Artistic Director, Anna Sessions; and live musical accompaniment from composer Quinn Mason and the musicians of MAKE Trio, Mikhail Berestnev, Danny Goldman, and Grace Wollett.

Trio in A Minor, choreographed by Nicolina Lawson, is set to the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s hauntingly passionate score.  Re-orchestrated specifically for Ms. Lawson and performed live by MAKE Trio, this ballet explores the romantic relationship between the dancers and instruments, the subtle nuances of layering movement, and the classical lines of which ballet was formed.

Second in the evening’s production is Kiyon Gaines Ross’ ThreeForTwoInOne.  Set to Les Beautes du Diable this playful pas de deux is a beautiful and stunning visualization of the string duet with its ‘cat and mouse’ attributes, crisp movement, and contemporary vitality. ThreeForTwoInOne has been graciously staged specifically for BNT by Lindsi Dec, former principal dancer of Pacific Northwest Ballet.

The first of BNT’s two world premieres is Artistic Director, Nicolina Lawson’s Two Fleeting Daydream. The piece is set to an original composition of composer Quinn Mason’s and performed live by MAKE Trio.  Associate Artistic Director, Anna Sessions is the creator of the evening’s second premier, set to E.S. Posthumus’ musical arrangements.

This evening event demonstrates the versatility and growth of Ballet North Texas, revealing something unexpected and beautiful about the dancers’ artistic life. We invite you to discover and move with us, as we continue to explore the realm of dancing possibilities.
