Townes Van Zandt was an influential, enigmatic, and atmospheric song writer who sang cowboy and backwoods songs with memorable images that were painted with words.  His albums include "Townes Van Zandt", "Our Mother the Mountain" and "Delta Momma Blues". Known for writing the songs "If I Needed You" and “For The Sake Of The Song", in 1983, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard took "Pancho and Lefty" to the top of the country charts.

The late Mickey Newbury who is best remembered for the hit, Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In,  observed, "Townes writes like Hank Williams probably would have written, but I tell ya, I think Townes is better. I consider him in the same category as Dylan and McCartney."

Band leader Nick Brumley notes, “His work means a lot to me because his music is what brought a lot of my friends together. To this day I have lifelong friends and our first conversations started out with what Townes song was our favorite. “

This band is comprised of Nick Brumley, John Fox, Grady Lee, and Cole Allen.

Townes Van Zandt was directly descended from Isaac Van Zandt for whom Van Zandt County in Texas is named.
