The Rainwater Secret

Allen Public Library

Listen to the Monica Shaw discuss her inspirational book, The Rainwater Secret, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the Allen Public Library.  The Rainwater Secret, began as a personal journey to investigate the life of her great aunt who became a missionary later in life.

After the death of her mother, Anna embarks on an adventure as a volunteer with the Medical Missionaries of Mary to teach the leper children in Africa. Life as Anna has known it, is forever altered as she discovers that sick, disfigured, and disabled are banished to the jungles. Babies are abandoned to die on roadsides, children are chased away to live by whatever means they can find.

Anna’s daily life is an adventure as she traverses a hostile landscape with few passable roads, rickety bridges threatening to fall apart and propel its occupants onto the jagged rocks far below.

Despite the adversities, Anna manages to encounter love and family in this environment. Follow this adventure through disease, torrid heat, strife, death and determination to turn a few acres of land into a loving home for the outcast lepers of Africa.

Sponsored by the Allen Public Library, the program is free.  The library is located at 300 N. Allen Dr.  Call 214-509-4911 for additional information
