CANCELLED: DAY to PLAY, presented by AT&T and benefiting Family Gateway

AT&T Performing Arts Center - Strauss Square

UPDATE: Family Gateway has announced the cancellation of its spring fundraiser, DAY to PLAY, in order to comply and in the best interests of public safety in our community.

Family Gateway’s family fundraiser DAY to PLAY, presented by AT&T, brings families together for an event filled with activities and discoveries geared specifically to children. From lawn games and yoga to live music and crafts, entertainment is paired with a focus on volunteerism and community service, including a basic overview of the scope of family homelessness in our community. The event is chaired by Whitney Strauss and Sarah Katherine Zavala and benefits Family Gateway in its mission to provide stability and life-changing supportive services to children and families affected by homelessness.

Entertainment highlights include DJ Souljah and Maya Delgado, superheroes and characters, inflatable obstacle course, giant slides, ninja climbing wall, hamster ball races, train rides, photo booth, lawn games, and arts, crafts & educational activities provided by The Birthday Party Project, Capes for Kindness, Chamberlain Studio of Martial Arts, The First Tee of Greater Dallas, HeARTS of Maya, Kids Helping Kids, Nasher Sculpture Center, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Play Street Museum, SPARK!, Studio Bella, and Wee Volunteer. Kid friendly concessions and beverages (including beer, wine, and champagne for adults) will be available for purchase through Wolfgang Puck Catering.  Family Gateway is also collecting snack items at the event for its “Pack a Snack” drive for children affected by homelessness. Popular items include granola bars, sandwich crackers, Goldfish, and animal crackers. New this year, companies may host company picnics on site, combining their spring social and service events into one day of family fun. Companies may mix and mingle while their children enjoy interactive games and activities. They may also participate in an on-site service project by assembling snack bags or hygiene kits for families with children experiencing homelessness (all supplies provided). DAY to PLAY is sponsored by DFW Child.

Shannon Reed, an employee at AT&T, will be honored at the event with the 2nd Annual Annette G. Strauss Community Service Award Reed. He has been an active volunteer at Family Gateway for more than five years. Every Tuesday afternoon, he helps kids with their homework in the after-school program. When Reed first started volunteering, he would bring three or four other AT&T employees with him. Today, 10-15 AT&T volunteers help in Family Gateway’s after-school program every Monday and Tuesday.

A family pass is $50. There is no restriction on the number of attendees in each family in honor of Family Gateway's inclusivity of families of all kinds. Attendees may also sponsor a $50 Family Pass for a family affected by homelessness to attend. Event sponsorships start at $500. Companies may host their spring picnics at the event for $50/adult and $25/child, which includes a boxed lunch and beverage by Wolfgang Puck Catering, one drink ticket/adult, a reserved company seating area, and unlimited playtime for all event attractions/activities.
