Geobotanical: Group Show

Robert Lawrence Designs

GEOBOTANICAL: Group show with artist talk by Lee A. Hill at Robert Lawrence Designs, 1607 Dragon Street, Dallas Tx 75207. Thursday, January 16, 2020, 5 - 8 pm, there will be an informal Q&A with Lee A. Hill starting at 6:30 PM

Robert Lawrence Designs (RLD) is pleased to announce a group show with work by several regional artists focused on abstraction, geometrics, and botanical influence. GEOBOTANICAL, features the work of Lee A. Hill, Cat Huss, Margaret McNiel, and Kelsey Nickerson. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 5 – 8 PM. Though diverse in media, application, and technique – GEOBOTANICAL is a survey of contemporary artists responding to the ideas of nature and hard-edged abstraction, while often addressing both. Lee A Hill, a Fort Worth-based artist whose process is driven using the mark-making of random natural elements placed, poured or sprayed on the canvas combined with a thoughtful hard-edged application of drafted and painted geometric patterns. Hill’s large-scale monochromatic works artfully combine organic forms with plotted geometric lines to reference an abstracted aerial view of imagined landscapes. In the same vein of abstracted reality, McNiel takes botanical images and paints squished and distorted forms of them on a saturated backdrop. Nickerson and Huss’ approach to painting is more intuitive, responding to formal qualities as well as themes of growth and chance. A public reception and informal artist talk will be hosted at the Robert Lawrence Designs Showroom on Dragon Street on Thursday, January 16th from 5 – 8 PM with the artist talks beginning at 6:30 PM. Drinks and light bites will be provided.

Long a fixture in the Dallas Design District, in 2018 Robert Lawrence Designs began promoting contemporary Texan Artists by hosting artist talks, art openings, and offering their artwork to the area’s top interior designers as well as the public. Entering the non-traditional gallery space, you are greeted with luxurious home décor, a forest of realistic faux plants, and a curated, rotating selection of botanical and abstract work by Texan Artists. RLD hosts four art openings a year, as well as participating in the Dragon Street Galleries Monthly Third Thursday’s Art Walk.
