You cannot see the news or listen to the radio nowadays without someone talking about Homo naledi. Homo naledi is the name given to the recently discovered new species of human ancestor found deep in a cave in South Africa. With the discovered remains of at least 15 individuals of the same species, it is already practically the best-known fossil member of human lineage. The discovery is detailed in the October issue of National Geographic magazine.

Lee Berger, research professor in the Evolutionary Studies Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand and a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, led the two expeditions that discovered and recovered the fossils. Dr. Berger will speak as part of the National Geographic Live! lecture series at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science at Victory Park.
