The Big Deal: Between Heaven and Hell: The Drawings of Jusepe de Ribera At The Meadows Museum

by Ariana Vera 22 Mar 2017 8:30 AM

MM_65_35_EmbarkSpanish Tenebrist painter and printmaker Jusepe de Ribera is known as one of the key artistic influencers of the seventeenth century. Though born in Spain his work was strongly influenced by work in Italy, such as the revolutionary paintings of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Unlike many others of his time, Ribera was not only an extraordinary painter but also a prolific graphic artist.

The Meadows Museum at SMU will have a total of 46 drawings, 12 prints, 11 paintings and one relief sculpture on view, nearly a third of Ribera’s surviving output of work. The museum, in collaboration with the Museo del Prado, will host the exhibition, Between Heaven and Hell: The Drawings of Jusepe de Ribera now through June 11. Enter this Big Deal for a chance to win a four-pack of tickets good throughout 2017.
