The Big Deal: 'American Vanguards' Prize Pack
by Sarah Hennigan 25 Jul 2012

Still Life with Eggs and Potato Masher, ca. 1928–29, Willem de Kooning

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is currently hosting the exhibition called “American Vanguards: Graham, Davis, Gorky, de Kooning and Their Circle, 1927–1942.” The show explores the work of 20th century artist John Graham and his circle of New York artist friends. Together, these painters and sculptors forged the new genre of art that would become known as American Modernism. The exhibition displays more than 75 pieces from this period. If you have not had a chance to check it out you still have time. The exhibition runs through August 19.

Whether you’ve already seen the exhibition or you’re planning a trip to check it out, we have the perfect accompaniment for you in this week’s Big Deal. One lucky Big Deal winner will receive an American Vanguards prize package, courtesy of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. The package includes: an American Vanguards exhibition catalog, a matted, 5×7 de Kooning print and a set of de Kooning notecards.
