Congratulations to Michael Hogan of North Richland Hills, the winner of the Flickr Photo of the Week contest. Michael has won our contest multiple times. His last win was in October 2017. He follows last week’s winner, Shiva Shenoy of Flower Mound.
If you would like to participate in the Flickr Photo of the Week contest, all you need to do is upload your photo to our Flickr group page. It’s fine to submit a photo you took earlier than the current week, but we are hoping that the contest will inspire you to go out and shoot something fantastic this week to share with Art&Seek users. If the picture you take involves a facet of the arts, even better. The contest week will run from Tuesday to Monday, and the Art&Seek staff will pick a winner on Friday afternoon. We’ll notify the winner through FlickrMail (so be sure to check those inboxes) and ask you to fill out a short survey to tell us a little more about yourself and the photo you took. We’ll post the winners’ photo on Tuesday.
Now here’s more from Michael.
Title of Photo: “Sunrise Silhouette”
Equipment: Canon SX50 HS
Tell us more about your photo: This photo was taken at sunrise on Padre Island National Seashore just minutes before a public release of Kemp’s ridley sea turtle hatchlings. Dr. Donna J. Shaver and Mr. Mark Spier are the two National Park Service staff members featured in the photo. Dr. Shaver is the Chief of the Division of Sea Turtle Science and Recovery and Mr. Spier is the PINS Superintendent. Because the sun was just barely over the horizon, I was easily able to line up my camera, Dr. Shaver and the sun for a nearly perfect silhouette shot. The netting you see at the top of the photo is there to keep the seagulls away – they will eat the hatchlings if given a chance.
