- African and African American women have worn headwraps for hundreds of years. Some wear them for religious or cultural purposes, others for fashion. Chesley Antoinette – a wearable art designer – is working to educate North Texans about the garb’s transition from a statement of oppression to statement of power.
- Dallas’ third annual Soluna Festival, currently underway in the Arts District, has major performances planned by the Dallas Symphony, Texas Ballet Theater and Dallas Black Dance Theatre. - Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Bjork are just a few of the artists who have worn Iris van Herpen’s futuristic designs. Her bold concepts are often art themselves, which is why the 32-year-old designer from the Netherlands has a new exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. KERA’s Jessica Diaz-Hurtado reports on van Herpen’s use of 3-D technology and new fabrics to create work at the intersection of fashion, technology and science.
