How Richardson landed the Alamo Drafthouse, a call to classical musicians and the DMA’s new experimental project space.

CTA TBD

DRAFTING THE DRAFTHOUSE: We’re a little less than a month away from the opening of North Texas’ first Alamo Drafthouse. The new theater will be located at Belt Line Road and Central Expressway and feature seven screens and 825 seats. Part of the reason the chain decided to put a location in Richardson is that the city approved a healthy sales-tax rebate – up to $100,000 per year for 10 years. “The city incentives came to the landlord, lowering the overall project cost and thus gave me lower rent,” Bill C. DiGaetano, who owns the theater with his dad, tells dallasnews.com. “This gives me less overhead and thus our break-even is a much lower revenue number than the average revenue numbers our Austin-based stores do each year.”

A CLASSICAL CONVERSATION: Do you work in the field of classical music? If so, The New York Times wants to hear from you. The paper is asking readers to write about the piece of music that inspired them to turn their favorite art form into a career. Some of these mini essays – 250 words or less – will run in the paper next week. All you’ve got to do to enter is leave a comment at nytimes.com.

DMA REMODEL: If you’ve been by the Dallas Museum of Art lately, you may have notice that the Barrel Vault and Quadrant Galleries have been having some work done to them. The facelift is part the museum’s effort to create an experimental project space for North Texas artists, collectives and art educators. You can see pictures and learn more about the project on the museum’s Uncrated blog.
