Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 26 Mar 2013 7:48 AM

Today in the roundup: A couple of season announcements, Nick Cave heads to NYC and Tina Parker returns to the stage.

CTA TBD

SEASON ANNOUNCEMENTS: Casa Mañana has announced the lineup for its 2013-14 Broadway Series. Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn gets things going on Sept. 21-29, followed by the regional premiere of Oswald: The Actual Interrogation. Past favorites Cats and Always … Patsy Cline are also in the mix. Also in Fort Worth, Hip Pocket Theatre has released its 37th season. Of the five shows, two will be new ones from Johnny Simons, with two others from his daughter, Lake.

HEARD NY: A different mode of transportation will greet passengers moving through Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal: horses. That’s because performance artist Nick Cave is staging Heard NY this week, featuring his signature equine soundsuits. If that all sounds very familiar, maybe you caught the soundsuits while Cave was the artist-in-residence last school year at the University of North Texas. Didn’t see them? It’s worth a look at our video.

CURTAIN CALL: On Friday, Kitchen Dog Theater opens RX. Kate Fodor’s comedy features a scientist testing a new drug to treat workplace depression and the willing guinea pig he’ll be testing it on. Kitchen Dog co-artistic director Tina Parker plays the patient, her first role at the theater in two years. She’s been busy directing a few shows and filming everything from Breaking Bad to Dallas to The Lone Ranger. But she tells dallasnews.com that she know’s it’s time to get back on the KD stage when, “a person comes up to me and asks me if I’ve ever thought about being in a play.”
