CASH FOR CREATIVES: The jury has been announced for this year’s Moss/Chumley North Texas Artist Award, presented by the Meadows Museum. The $1,500 award goes to a North Texas artist with a track record of arts advocacy. This year’s jury includes a who’s who in the local arts scene: Joan Davidow, Heyd Fontenot, George T. Lee, Jr., Lucia Simek, Kevin Vogel, Nicole Atzbach, Shelley DeMaria  and Iraida Rodríguez-Negron. All the details on how to apply are on the Meadows website.

POLITICAL THEATER: On Thursday, Pantagleize Theater Company will open Ugly People. The show focuses on a fictional presidential campaign featuring one whip-smart candidate and one who’s not so smart. The play was written by James Venhaus, who tells theaterjones.com that he had plenty of inspiration from real-life politics. “I think art is a necessary way to point out what’s wrong with our current state of affairs. But if Ugly People is still relevant in 10 years, there’s something very wrong with our political system.”

QUOTABLE: “It’s so important that this theater not become relevant only from a nostalgic point of view – it’s important; I have nostalgic memories of the Ridglea, too – but that’s what saved it. That’s not what’s going to move it forward.”
