Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 26 Jun 2012 7:41 AM

Today in the roundup: A Museum Tower/Nasher update, Joel Ferrell’s very busy schedule and business tips for artists.

CTA TBD

THE GLARE EXPANDS: Museum Tower and Nasher Sculpture Center officials have been meeting privately to try to hammer out a solution to Glaregate (or Glaremaggedon or Glarepocalypse – take your pick). But now there is reason to believe that the Nasher isn’t the only place suffering from the reflection. A resident of One Arts Plaza, which is east of Museum Tower, e-mailed Michael Granbury a photo taken from her apartment. You may want to grab your sunglasses before you take a look.

JUST JOEL: Joel Ferrell received some welcome news last month when the Dallas Theater Center promoted him to associate artistic director. And DTC has been keeping him busy with directing jobs for the recent God of Carnage and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which opens Friday. It’s a lot of work, but work he finds satisfying. “I love the creativity of not only having the opportunity to direct, my real passion, but also be a part of the creativity of helping that organization be healthy and move forward,” he tells theaterjones.com. “I’m exhausted all the time, but I’m also always thinking these will be the years I’ll look back on and say ‘we did something’.”

ADVICE FOR ARTISTS: Are you a working artist trying to figure out how to make the business side of things work? You might check out a handy guide on the website mbaonline.com. It gathers up relevant resources for things like how to create a contract with a gallery, how to handle the taxes on all that work you’re selling and how to copyright your creations. Lots of handy stuff, all in one place.
