FWOpera's Darren Woods to Wed Makeup Designer Steven Bryant

They’ve known each other since 1980. They’re getting married in New York — no surprise.

Just checking out the New York Times‘ Sunday wedding announcements, when I’m stopped by a face and a name I recognize: Darren Woods. The announcement states that FWOpera general director Woods will be marrying independent wig and makeup designer Steven Bryant tonight, Sunday, at the Seagle Music Colony in upstate New York. (I imagine ‘independent wigs’ must be the ones that really hate to be brushed.) The Seagle is where Woods has spent many a summer, even before he became its artistic director, and it’s where the couple met in 1980 when Bryant picked up Wood and two others at the airport. Bryant followed Woods back to Texas — where the two have been longtime partners and where Bryant has provided makeup and wigs for Fort Worth Opera.

    Don’t let Rick Perry know about this. He is liable to have Mr. Woods deported, and he would probably shut down the FWOpera for allowing its general director to engage in such a perverse activity as loving another person and making a lifetime, legal commitment to that person.
