Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 8 May 2012 7:51 AM

Today in the roundup: A local designer on HGTV, Mike Simpson’s new gig and an environmentally friendly music fest in Fort Worth.

CTA TBD

DESIGN TIME: Hilari Younger, a 31-year-old Dallas resident, is one of 12 finalists who will compete to win their own HGTV show on the new season of HGTV Design Star. Younger studied fashion merchandising at Howard University and works as a contractor and interior stylist. HGTV has a slideshow of her designs on its website. The show premieres May 29.

SIMPSON RESURFACES: When we last heard from Mike Simpson back in February, he was resigning his post as the director of the Arts Center of North Texas. The proposed multi-city facility in Collin County was struggling to stay afloat financially, and Simpson’s salary was one of its biggest expenses. But worry not for the former Frisco mayor – on Monday, Simpson was named CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County.

LET THE SUN SHINE: If you like your live music with a little environmental consciousness, you’re in luck. The Solar Powered Music Fest is coming to Fort Worth. The event will take place on the banks of the Trinity River and feature national acts the English Beat and the Romantics as well as locals Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights, Ishi, Whiskey Folk Ramblers and others. Circle June 16 on your calendar.
