Here’s my thought of the week:
Brian Auger, a man who is truly captain when sailing on the Hammond B-3, should get some air time. My thoughts run towards “Compared to What.” Now, there is a live version on youtube that really kicks, but, it is 9:45. So, Amazon has a 2007 mp3 version that is “only” 7:52. Perhaps you may find room in the show for that. I do recommend the live version. Hint..hint.

    “Bendito” by Y La Bamba
    “Canto Negro” by M.A.K.U. SoundSystem
“One Second of Love” by Nite Jewel
    “Porque te vas” by Jeanette

Those songs have dominated my weekend. Also, glad I can finally catch some the show. It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve tuned in, but I’m discovering some good stuff here.

I’d enjoy another Beck track if you’d be so kind…A list you might want to peruse if you go that route.
    “Dark Star” from The Information
    “Lost Cause” from Sea Change
    “Volcano” from Modern Guilt
“We Dance Alone” from The Information

If none of the above appeals to you then maybe a nice strange Eno piece with Fripp. Mayhaps “Driving Me Backwards” from Here Come the Warm Jets would fit the bill?

    • pslavens_kera

      all those suggestions sound great.

  • Regan

Paul, I really don’t listen to much new music, except what I sometimes here on your own station or Pandora, so I think I can request Residents again, “Yes/no”, but I’d like to request Wonderful, but I’m not sure if anything in that song might unintentionally offend anyone. Really good live version on youtube of Wonderful though. Your discretion.

    • pslavens_kera

I will check it, one way or the other you have given me an excuse to play the Residents. and that makes me very very happy.,

Quick question – is there a way to get a listing of what’s playing now, or what the last few tracks were? (Separate from your end-of-show list, that is – something that’s more-or-less live?)

    • Anonymous

well, I think I am not supposed to publish a set list until after the show. its a licensing thing. but if there were some specific songs you wanted to know, you could kind of describe em.

      • Anonymous

Nah, I can wait – the main impetus for asking was “Is this really Rod Stewart? It sure sounds like it…” (And I was right!)

Two related suggestions for the moment : there’s a Boston guitarist by the name of Charlie Chesterman who has some country-inflected roots rock that’s just gorgeous. He used to co-front a band called Scruffy the Cat who were also pretty sweet. Either of those would be great. My recommendations from Chesterman would be a song called “True Love Song #9”, and “Blue Russian” from Scruffy the Cat. (“Blue Russian” is simply EXQUISITE.)

    Hey,

F.Y.I., Múm is from Iceland, that same amazing little island that brought you Björk and Sigur Rós in music and Olafur Eliasson and Katrín Sigurdardóttir in art.

    How about “Kämpa” by Drivan?
It’d be cool if you could play “The Warning” by Phil Cohran and The Artistic Heritage Ensemble to get some jazz, but it’s 6:55 which might be a bit long for you. Maybe you could play it with a short song in the segment like “Lips” (1:20) by Micachu & The Shapes?

Last suggestion, “Artistry In Percussion” by Stan Kenton.

    • Anonymous

ah yes, Bjorkland. they need to learn to spell stuff. thanks for the great suggestions.
