Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 27 Mar 2012 8:07 AM

Today in the roundup: A Denton author’s series for kids, local music bits and an art collectors’ road trip.

CTA TBD

BOOK SENSE: Dorothy Minter’s first children’s book began as a contest entry. It didn’t win. But it gave the Denton author the inspiration to keep going, leading to her The Adventures of Lucy Lou series. So far, Minter has published five books in the series. And she says she’s still got plenty of stories to tell about her young hero. “I might send her to college, I don’t know,” she tells dentonrc.com. “I’d love to see her in the DISD libraries. I would love to have Lucy Lou T-shirts and Lucy Lou lunch boxes, like Dora [the Explorer].”

MUSIC BITS: More acts have been added to Dallas’ Homegrown Fest, including the great Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. (DC9 at Night) … Texas Monthly is pretty thrilled with Sarah Jaffe’s new album, The Body Wins. (texasmonthly.com) … Services and a tribute jam session have been set for longtime Fort Worth musician Mace Maben, who died last week. (dfw.com)

ROAD TRIP: Last weekend, a group of collectors affiliated with the Amon Carter Museum of Art hopped on I35 and headed south to San Antonio for the annual print fair hosted by the McNay Art Museum. And while they were there, they stopped by the homes of a couple of private collectors to talk shop and check out the art. Their adventures are recounted on a recent post on the Amon Carter’s blog.
