Somebody got on the blog earlier and asked why I play so little music by women. Hmm, well, when I make the sets of music I usually pick one female voice song, one male song, an instrumental and then something else to fill out the 12.5 minute time that I use per set. I have 4 sets that equal about 50 minutes. I also try to put local music in too at least every 2 sets. Perhaps it may feel like I am not playing a lot of women, but I do try to put in a lot. really.

Ah jolly good show sir! Would you be so kind as to consider playing “14th Street Hustle” or “East Coast Eddie” by Cadillac Jones from The Big Takedown recording? ==)B-)x

    • Anonymous

I think I may have played that a few months ago, I will dig it out if I have it, or get it and play it, thanks

      • William Dumont III

Outstanding, by Jove! I’ve heard you play “Tarzan” from said collection. If you have this recording on compact disc be forewarned that the track numbers are off by one. The first track is merely the rattling a film projector.

There is a free streaming of the new Mars Volta album. The first song is “The Whip Hand” and I’ve never heard anything quite like it. It is off-kilter and mesmerizing (to me anyway). If you can get your hands on it, it might make a nice addition to your show.

Here are some songs to add to “The Fountainhead of Inspiration”.

    Chairlift “Sidewalk Safari”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrM5SOGw9T8

Higher Palms – “My Best Fiend”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfo9ADkH3Io

Excellent Cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” by Tim O’Brien
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMyuIBBg3Gg

Jagjit Singh “Uski baatein toh phool hon jaise”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6tByKe_e8g

[Jagjit Singh is probably the most famous singer in India, and can be considered India’s “Frank Sinatra”. The type of music Jagjit Singh sings are called “Ghazals”, mellow and romantic.]

I am a bad boy about posting my playlist sometimes,

I cant post it before the show ends.

      • Ajarmstrong42

thank you very much! im sure you know the irritation involved when hearing a killer song on the radio and not being able to discover who/what it was….great selection tonight, keep it up.

I found my first Chris Whitley CD in a parking lot. “Poison Girl” – I was hooked.
He gets very little radio play. Then, there’s the Paul Slavens show. Thanks, Paul. I liked “Red Mud.” Good bottleneck slide. And Spirit! Yeah! Making me think of Brian Auger and Oblivion Express.
If I only have one request tonight, it would be Guy Forsyth’s “If I was Sick.”
Or maybe some Dread Zeppelin, King Crimson, King’s X, or perhaps some Syd Barrett. Or maybe Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” or “Rusted Cage.”
Yeah, that might just do it..

    • Anonymous

well, I just rocked some Dread Zep, hope you heard it. but I will get on your other suggestions for next week. cheers!

The Dread Zeppelin wasn’t bad, but I prefer Richard Cheese’s Stairway to Heaven, and Tiny Tim’s version right up there with it.

‘Richard’ Cheese is great if you like groups NINs and Disturbed and others set to lounge music.
Try ‘Down With the Sickness’ from the ‘Dawn of the Dead, but you can’t play it, foul language.

    J. Paul:
Thanks for the John Hartford, my he rest in peace. He was also a licensed riverboat captain. To see him live was a treat, a musician’s musician. So understated, and low keyed, but he never missed a beat, dry and witty. And song writing skills too. Check out his song Steam Powered Areo-plane.

Have you heard of Eyedea and Abilities? If not, I hope you enjoy Michael Larsen’s writing and the music he and Gregory Keltgen put together . I’ll post a couple of links below, to point you in that direction, but I encourage you to explore and find one you like for your own reasons.
