Ah, I love an opportunity to make things right. Last week, I posted about D’JAM, the area celebration of jazz that will take place all month long in April. I included a shot of  the Booker T. Washington Jazz Combo  playing at the press conference announcing D’JAM.   And that shot inadvertently cut out drummer Michael Mitchell. (Crackerjack photo skills have I.)

But now there’s  an excuse to post this better photo of the Booker T Jazz Combo from last week, including Michael.

Comes news that Michael  is currently touring with the National Thelonious Monk All Star Magnet Jazz Combo.  The combo includes five of the best jazz musicians from magnet school jazz programs across the country.  Highlights of the tour include performing with Christian McBride and recording an album, says his teacher, Bart Marantz.  He’ll be back in time to head out with his Booker T bandmates above for the national finals at Monterey Jazz Festival next weekend.
