Big congratulations to Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks and KERA-FM’s Bill Zeeble! Their arts coverage has been recognized by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters 2011-2012 Radio Contest.
Jerome won first place in the specialty or beat reporting category. We are especially proud of him, as his arts reporting was singled out in a category that considers work across all genres of news (health, education, etc.).
The body of work included these stories:
A look at the artist-in-residency program at the Fairmont Hotel.
An explanation of what the heck countertenors do and why they’re important in Baroque opera
A trip behind the scenes at the Dallas Historical Society archives
KERA fans are familiar with Bill Zeeble’s news reporting, but careful listeners may also have picked up on his deep appreciation and knowledge of music. That, and his great use of sound, was recognized with a second place award for Use of Actuality-Production for his piece on the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s collaboration on a percussion premiere with D’Drum and Stewart Copeland.
All told, your mighty KERA news team took home an impressive 9 awards.
