Friday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 20 Jan 2012 7:58 AM

Today in the roundup: Gaultier speaks, Booker T’s big field trip and local theater bits.

CTA TBD

GAULTIER SPEAKS: During the press preview for “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk,” Gaultier himself took part in a Q&A at the DMA but didn’t really give one-on-one interviews. (In fairness, just about everyone who owns a reporters notebook was there, so it would have been pretty time consuming.) But he did make an exception for CBS News. The network will air the interview this weekend on CBS Sunday Morning, and it’s posted a preview of the segment on its website.

THEY PRACTICED, PRACTICED, PRACTICED: Some Booker T. Washington High School students will make their Carnegie Hall debut even earlier than maybe they expected. The school’s varsity string orchestra has been invited to play the famed venue on May 5. The trip will cost about $70,000, and they’re still short about 20 large. Feeling generous? You can help.

THEATER BITS: Dallas will get its own staged reading of 8, Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black’s play about the Proposition 8 trial in California. (dallasvoice.com) … WaterTower Theatre has announced the participants in this year’s Out of the Loop Fringe Festival. (theaterjones.com) … Garret Storms, of Stage West’s current New Jerusalem, explains why he was shocked when the company asked him to play the lead role. (fwweekly.com)
