Dallas Theater Center announced today the addition of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat to its 2011-12 Mainstage season. Here’s what they have to say about it:

DALLAS (November 9, 2011) – Dallas Theater Center announced today the addition of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat to its 2011-12 Mainstage season. DTC Associate Artist Joel Ferrell (A Christmas Carol, Cabaret) will direct and choreograph this family-friendly musical, which will run from June 22 – August 12, 2012 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

“DTC is committed to providing entertaining theater that engages every member of our North Texas community. Part of that commitment means producing theater appropriate for the entire family,” says DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. “After the incredible audience response to It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman and The Wiz in the past two years, DTC is thrilled to announce Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat as this summer’s family-friendly production. It is a beloved musical with catchy songs, energetic dance numbers and a lively cast of characters that people from all across the Metroplex will enjoy. We are ecstatic to include this production in our 53rd Mainstage season.”

Tickets will go on-sale to Dallas Theater Center Benefactors on December 1, season subscribers on December 7, and the general public on December 15. Tickets will be available online at www.DallasTheaterCenter.org or by calling the box office at 214-880-0202.

“Our production of The Wiz last summer played to sold-out houses throughout its run,” says Moriarty. “We encourage audiences to subscribe now to the DTC season to secure guaranteed access to what will certainly be the musical comedy event of the summer, filled with energy, joy, singing and dancing that will thrill audiences at the Wyly Theatre.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita) Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat was originally produced as a 20-minute cantata for a private school in London and made its Broadway debut in 1982. This musical of Biblical proportions tells the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors from the Book of Genesis. Its family-friendly themes and high-energy music and lyrics have made the musical a world-wide hit. It will be the first time that Dallas Theater center has produced this musical.

All performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat will be held at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center located at 2400 Flora St., where it runs June 22 – Aug. 12. Preview performances are June 22 – June 28. Opening night is Friday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m. Performance times are Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. (except for July 4); Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; and select Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on-sale to Dallas Theater Center Benefactors on December 1, season subscribers on December 7, and the general public on December 15.
