LENDING A HAND: This fall, students in local university dance programs are getter an extra bang for their tuition buck. That’s because many of our local colleges are bringing in outside choreographers to work with students. “From an educational standpoint, it’s important to be exposed to different kinds of movement. That has become more important in the dance world,” Patty Delaney, artistic director of an upcoming SMU recital, tells dallasnews.com. “No longer do you walk into a ballet company and expect to do only ballet. Twyla Tharp can walk in the door. Mia Michaels can walk in the door. So you don’t know what you’re going to be asked to do.”

REVIEWING ‘GISELLE’: Over the weekend, Texas Ballet Theater staged Artistic Director Ben Stevenson’s take on the classic Giselle. It was Stevenson’s first time to stage the classic ballet, and from reading the reviews, it was worth the wait. “From small roles like that of Giselle’s mother (Anna Donovan) … to the larger ones, the cast is perfect,” Margaret Putnam writes on theaterjones.com. Meanwhile, Mark Lowry writes on dfw.com that the sets were spectacular and the lead dancers were even better. Hope you caught it at Bass Hall, because this one isn’t traveling to the Winspear.

UP ALL NIGHT: This past Friday, the Dallas Museum of Art held its monthly Late Night event, and this coming Friday, the Nasher stays open ’til Midnight. If you’ve been down in the Arts District during these kinds of events, you know that they draw a crowd. So the next question is: Are the museum’s ready to go all night? That’s what some New York museums are doing in an effort to claim a piece of the city’s nightlife. In fact, some will even let you bring your sleeping bag.
