Uptown Players' New Season: Titles and Dates and Not Much Else

by Jerome Weeks 4 Aug 2011 2:49 PM

Dallas theaters seem to have a yen for composer Michael John LaChiusa. Theatre 3 is presenting his ‘See What I Wanna See,’ the Dallas Theater Center will debut his version of ‘Giant’ next season and now the Uptown Players has announced the company’s 2012 season, which includes LaChiusa’s ‘Hello Again.’

CTA TBD

Musical composer Michael John LaChiusa seems to be enjoying something of a Dallas festival. Theatre Three is currently presenting See What I Wanna See, his version of Rashomon, through Aug. 15. The Dallas Theater Center will be presenting his musical version of Giant next season. And now the Uptown Players has announced the company’s 2012 season, which includes Hello Again, LaChiusa’s musical treatment of the classic sexual roundelay, La Ronde.

Other productions being offered include Take Me Out, Richard Greenburg’s baseball drama about homophobia and racism,  which ran off-Broadway and then on Broadway in 2003, The Producers (no need to identify that one, you think?), The Divine Sister, Charles Busch’s latest comedy sending up bad old Hollywood movies — in this case, The Singing Nun — with, of course, the lead role played in drag.

And then there are the two bonus shows, the Players’ perennial spoof-fest, Broadway Our Way, plus The Silence of the Clams, a “crass and campy” send-up of a certain serial-killer thriller. The last show will be staged at the Rose Room at Station 4, the Cedar Springs disco club. All others will be at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

But that’s all the info we have for now.
