Students from Greiner Middle School Arts Academy were among those protesting cuts at last night’s school board meeting.

Students, teachers and parents from W.E. Greiner Middle School and Exploratory Arts Academy were among those who packed the school board meeting last night to protest proposed budget cuts.  The Greiner mariachi band even performed outside the building prior to the meeting. Inside, it was an overflow crowd, with many hanging out in the lobby watching the action on television.

The latest budget proposal cuts 4.5 teachers from Greiner’s arts academy.  Better than all 9 academy teachers the original budget was going to cut. But still a significant whack. Greiner is the only arts magnet school for middle schoolers and many of its students go on to attend high school at arts magnet Booker T. Washington. Here are a couple shots from yesterday.
