Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 23 Feb 2011 7:55 AM

Today in the roundup: The art of art conservation, words with Paula Poundstone and your chance to talk all things Oscars.

CTA TBD

THE DOCTOR IS IN: John Campbell sometimes describes himself as an “art doctor.” It’s a way of making his real title – art conservator – a little more accessible. Campbell talks about the work he does at the Nasher Sculpture Center – including a recent restoration project on an Alexander Calder piece – in a video interview on artthisweek.com.

WORDS WITH PAULA: Are you a frequent KERA listener? (Of course you are.) Then you’re familiar with Paula Poundstone, a regular on Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. On Friday, you can see her in person at the Majestic Theatre, where she’ll be performing her stand-up routine. At this point, she’s known for the give and take she has with the audience. “When I first started doing open mic nights, I would try so hard to memorize my five minutes of jokes, and invariably within seconds, I could be distracted — even before I’d said my first word,” she tells dfw.com. “At first I thought this was just the worst thing that could happen, that it was a lack of professionalism.. But somewhere along the way, I realized, well that was the really, really fun part.”

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Can you stomach one more hour of Oscar talk? If so, we’re both in luck. Think is holding its annual Oscar round table today (KERA, noon), featuring Chris Kelly of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Chris Vognar of The Dallas Morning News and Yours Truly of The Web Site You’re Reading Right Now. Please keep the questions coming (1-800-933-5372 or [email protected]) so we don’t have to break down the documentary shorts category.
