  • When I taught photography in New Jersey, I always enjoyed trading music with students. One of them showed me the band “Berg sans Nipple” and I was truly blown away.

    You would be doing your audience well in playing some of their beauty.

    Either way, stay groovy.

    By the way… play my request, don’t play it… it doesn’t matter… I should have mentioned… I’m a big fan of the show, the best part of an early night on Sunday was always the drive home with the show… being home for the whole thing always takes the sting out of being home… keep up the good work my man!

    From the liner notes from “The Forest”

    “Some of this music was originally heard in THE FOREST, a theatre piece by Robert wilson and David Byrne. Directed by Robert Wilson. Premiered at the Theater der Freien Volksbuhne, Berlin, in 1988”

    I thought it was from a film as well (Byrne did several art films in that are well worth watching. So I found my disk and got out the notes. Darn. No film. FANTASTIC album, though. It’s one of those you have to listen to from start to finish.

    thanks for morphine and the pogues, too!!!! can’t believe shane macgowan is still alive. he must have the strongest liver on the planet. happy early st. patty’s day. the undertones are a good, old fun irish band to play. james is always great to play. thanks for pil, too. trippin daisy did a great cover of “rise” as well.

  • Kay knows everything but she’s young. Feed her some older older pretentious stuff next week. I’m thinking Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Early stuff. “Knife Edge” is accessible and radio-playable-short. I remember that there were others that were good, had a spark, but too many brain cells have faded since then to give you titles.

    Come to think of it, we could have “Concept Album Night.” It would make your job easy. ELP. Genesis, King Crimson… you could do the whole show in maybe four or five tracks…

    I have been very careful over the years to limit the amount of Prog Rock I play. After spending most of my youth listening to huge amounts of the stuff I have to remind myself that a little goes a long ways for most folks. Not for me, but for most folks.

  • I was just thinkin’… but I know what you mean. All musical styles come back around again. But that one? Maybe not so much.

    Still I think of when you played Van Dyke Parks “G-man Hoover” or The Shaggs “Foot-Foot,” life changing experiences, both of them. Hopefully the two 180 degree turns ended ended up with me going back in the right direction. I can’t help but wonder if some innocent out there might not go through the same loops is exposed to, say, “Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.”

    She is quite impressive to be sure and she is working with good people too. Like I said, its a bit poppy but she doesnt go over the line. Pretty good for someone of such a tender age. I can imagine the live show is more raw .

  • Great show again, Paul. Gotta dial in to my buddy Mike McAbee over at KTCU (88.7 shoutout) now to catch some New Orleans music. All weekend is a radio wasteland then Sunday night is busy!

    FWIW, KXT’s playlist gets a little like listening to someone else’s Itunes Genius, if you know what I mean. Kinda mechanical, making connections that don’t make sense if you know what I mean. I guess the hosts are kinda on a short leash. pity…

    speaking of working with good people and arts magnet grads. Club Wood at the CT and the Ems release party was alot of fun. Maybe next week. I have my favs from the Ems but after a quick run through of the lp I’m feelin “don’t go” or “leave a light on”

    Ive always loved these two songs, they could never get radio play on other stations but your program would be perfect, they are both less than 2 minutes so hopefully you can find time for both… Nightnoise- Fionnghuala(Mouth Music) & the 2001 remaster of jethro tull 3rd album- benefit, bonus track “just trying to be”……. both gems!!! 🙂

    Hey Paul. Show is great, and I love a host who can take suggestions and actually asks for them! Heres some stuff I think the listeners would love that I already do!

    Toro Y Moi aka Chaz Bundick, South Carolina artist, going to be featured a lot at SXSW. Really smart musician and producer. Very cool easy to listen to.

    Washed Out aka Ernest Greene who is similiar style as Toro (they are friends), does some good remasters of old tunes you’ve never heard.

    I would also love to hear Neko Case, Caribou, Real Estate, Dom, Ween, Tilly and the Wall…
