Well, I guess the Grammys are tonight, but instead we are gonna play some great music on the radio!

    Hey, that Aretha track sounded a bit like Joan… No matter, screw the Grammys, your show is better! (Though I’d love to see Arcade Fire or Florence + The Machine win something.)

    Since the Grammies are by-and-very-large Not Scottish (for the most part) I verra much prefer your mixe du Fronche accordienne and other, quality (VelvetU) stuff.

    Cy Coleman wrote (with Comden & Green) the first Broadway musical I ever saw, “On The Twentieth Century.” Still one of my fave shows. This Fiona Apple track sounds lovely.

    BTW, I highly recommend Fitz and The Tantrums for future playlist consideration. Their new album knocks me out.

    …Heard this instrumental a few weeks ago from Cult With No Name
    “You Know Me Better Than I Know Myself” Sampled the rest of the disc wasn’t as impressed but this one stopped me in my tracks…worth a listen.

  • I second the Man Man suggestion. The San Francisco scene is hot these days. Deerhoof, Man Man, XDS (formerly Experimental Dental School, and a new favorite Battlehooch are all so cool.

    PiL (and the song “Rise” in particular) has been very much on my mind lately. Recently downloaded their catalog and am super excited to have them in my library again. Johnny Rotten loved being a pissed-off rockstar and that’s the face he turned to the world, which made it easy to miss the fact that he’s actually a spectacular musician.

    Anger is an energy!!

    I don’t care for Fitz & The Tantrums. Sound too much like Hall & Oats. Not my bag. How bout some of that new Wanda Jackson? Love that cover of “Shakin’ All Over.”

  • I’d love to hear some XDS on here. Which CD do you have? Jane Doe Loves Me? All of their stuff is fantastic. I think they released an album for free download through their website back in 2009. Let me see…here it is: http://www.experimentaldental.com/free/

    PIL’s “Rise” is great and radio clean and Johnny Rotten isn’t screaming in it, so that’s good. The song uses the Irish saying “May the road rise with you” and is great for St. paddy’s Day. Speaking of could you please London Girl by The Pogues? Or Morphine’s beautiful, accousti haunting song “In Spite of Me”? thanks!
