Hi there, well, nothing like starting the show with a goof up, guess I got the song order messed up, should make for an interesting evening!
    Let me hear from you!

  • Gregor

Hey, that Aretha track sounded a bit like Joan… No matter, screw the Grammys, your show is better! (Though I’d love to see Arcade Fire or Florence + The Machine win something.)

  • Hilary Thomas

I’m freshly re-in-love with an Austin band called Belaire. If you haven’t heard ’em yet, I’m predicting you’d dig ’em!

  • Paul Slavens

    yep, that was your suggestion
glad you got to hear it
    cheers

  • Russell

Since the Grammies are by-and-very-large Not Scottish (for the most part) I verra much prefer your mixe du Fronche accordienne and other, quality (VelvetU) stuff.

  • conner

Hey, love the show. I just picked up Junip this week, (jose gonzales)me likey. Thanks for the underground!

  • Paul Slavens

far out conner, I will get all over that
Hilary, my dear, if you like it , I like it.
that was actually a Brazilian song done by accordion and clarinet.Russell, but thanks all the same : )

  • Jason

I hope everyone in my neighborhood likes the Queen of Soul…because they just got their face rocked off.

  • Jon

I was gonna see if you could check out some man man… not sure what they have been up to but its good.

  • Gregor

Cy Coleman wrote (with Comden & Green) the first Broadway musical I ever saw, “On The Twentieth Century.” Still one of my fave shows. This Fiona Apple track sounds lovely.

BTW, I highly recommend Fitz and The Tantrums for future playlist consideration. Their new album knocks me out.

  • Joseba

…Heard this instrumental a few weeks ago from Cult With No Name
“You Know Me Better Than I Know Myself” Sampled the rest of the disc wasn’t as impressed but this one stopped me in my tracks…worth a listen.

  • Paul Slavens

    yeah, Fitz and the Tantrums
seems like I have looked into them
but I dont remember for sure

  • I second the Man Man suggestion. The San Francisco scene is hot these days. Deerhoof, Man Man, XDS (formerly Experimental Dental School, and a new favorite Battlehooch are all so cool.

Here’s a video for “Ringtone” by Battlehooch, with a link to iTunes in the description: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBf3n7f75_w

  • Paul Slavens

ok Joseba, I will check that track

  • Hilary Thomas

PiL (and the song “Rise” in particular) has been very much on my mind lately. Recently downloaded their catalog and am super excited to have them in my library again. Johnny Rotten loved being a pissed-off rockstar and that’s the face he turned to the world, which made it easy to miss the fact that he’s actually a spectacular musician.

    Anger is an energy!!

  • Paul Slavens

    wow, PiL
    never played any of that
I will check it fo sho
got a track suggestion ? (clean?)

  • John

I don’t care for Fitz & The Tantrums. Sound too much like Hall & Oats. Not my bag. How bout some of that new Wanda Jackson? Love that cover of “Shakin’ All Over.”

  • John

1’st Issue & Second Edition is the best PIL, Imo.

  • Paul Slavens

I saw XDS rock out with Deerhoof last year.
    got thier CD somewhere

  • I’d love to hear some XDS on here. Which CD do you have? Jane Doe Loves Me? All of their stuff is fantastic. I think they released an album for free download through their website back in 2009. Let me see…here it is: http://www.experimentaldental.com/free/
Ooh! It looks like their recording a new one too!

  • Steven

Check out the album Heave Yer Skeleton by mr. Gnome. I dig the track “Plastic Shadow”.

  • Steven

P.S. ‘Sit Up & Hum’ is great too

  • Brandi

PIL’s “Rise” is great and radio clean and Johnny Rotten isn’t screaming in it, so that’s good. The song uses the Irish saying “May the road rise with you” and is great for St. paddy’s Day. Speaking of could you please London Girl by The Pogues? Or Morphine’s beautiful, accousti haunting song “In Spite of Me”? thanks!

  • Brandi

here’s the link for “In Spite of Me”. http://www.last.fm/music/Morphine/_/In+Spite+of+Me

  • man–it sure is a sad shift to go from your show to Undercurrents.

  • Sophie

Thanks for playing that song by The Birthday Party…I am buying the CD and can’t wait to play it for my mom!
