Tuesday Morning Roundup
by Stephen Becker 8 Feb 2011

Today in the roundup: Michael Auping talks Ed Ruscha, a high-flying Evita and free music from a local favorite.

RIDING WITH ED: The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s current big show is called “Ed Ruscha: Road Tested.” (You might remember Jerome’s KERA story about the show from last week.) For its video series, artthisweek.com headed over to the museum to speak with chief curator Michael Auping about the show.

EYING ‘EVITA’: You’ve got until Sunday to take in Casa Manana’s production of Evita. And according to dfw.com, you’ll be glad you did. “This production, directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford, shines in a number of ways that go far beyond the lead roles,” Punch Shaw writes in his review. “The choruses, for example, are exceptionally sharp and crisp. And the production numbers involving those choruses are choreographed with a great deal of verve and creativity.” Lauren Kennedy plays the title role, and she recently set down with theaterjones.com for a video interview.

WHAT’S OLD IS NEW: If you’re a fan of the Old 97’s, you’ll want to get thee over to the band’s website. That’s because the band will be releasing a free bootleg every Monday this month. DC9 at Night has more details.
