Wednesday Morning Roundup
by Stephen Becker 26 Jan 2011

Today in the roundup: A dynamic duo visits the DSO, local music bits and a piece of the Arts District is for sale.

ONE-TWO PUNCH: This weekend, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra welcomes a dynamic duo to the Meyerson. Pianist Peter Serkin will play Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2. And he will be lead by Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard, who will be making his Dallas debut. Dausgaard spoke with theaterjones.com about his approach to Brahms as well as his affection for countryman Carl Nielsen, whose Symphony No. 2 will also be performed.

MUSIC BITS: The members of Fort Worth’s hip-hop scene are working together to in the hopes of attracting attention to the talent in the 817. (fwweekly.com) … Sarah Jaffe recently covered Robyn’s “Hang With Me” at Lola’s in Fort Worth. You decide: Was it awesome, or so awesome? (dfw.com) … A new live recording series, called Violitionist, has surfaced in Denton. Many of the city’s best have already contributed performances. (violitionist.com)

BUY A PIECE OF THE ARTS DISTRICT: One Arts Plaza is up for sale. The developers tell dallasnews.com that proceeds from the sale will be put into building the two additional high rises that are planned for the project. So how much will it cost? I think this falls under the “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” axiom.
