Thursday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 30 Dec 2010 7:59 AM

Today in the roundup: The year in local music, a look inside the renovated Highland Park Village Theater and whither the Kimbell trees?

CTA TBD

SEEING RED OVER GREEN: When the Kimbell Art Museum announced it was going to build an expansion, the first question on a lot of people’s minds was: What will happen to all of the trees that currently stand where the new building will go? The original plan was to somehow preserve those trees, but when construction began in the fall, the trees were removed. That’s got some people annoyed, reports fwweekly.com, though the Kimbell promises it will replace the old trees with new ones.

IN WITH THE NEW: The Highland Park Village Theater has been closed for so long (since August 2009) that I almost forgot it was being renovated. (Of course, that may partly be because I’ve tried to block out the memory of the time when I stood outside the theater for more than an hour on the coldest night of the year because I had to interview Paris Hilton before a screening of The Hottie and the Nottie. Shuddering just thinking about it.) Anyhoo – the theater has reopened with a slick redesign that features leather chairs, a full bar and all sorts of other amenities. Unfair Park plays tour guide.

2010 REWIND: And what would a roundup be without a top 10 list, right? Today’s comes courtesy of quickdfw.com, which looks back at the year in local music. All your favorites (Sarah, Erykah, Jonathan, etc.) are there. Might want to take notes on this one.
