Hi Paul, listening while doing homework. Wondering if you have heard of Dispatch.. probably have. But, anyhoo-some of their best songs I believe are The General ( the remix is also really good- check that out too!) and also Bang Bang is a great song as well.

I am a fan of all of their stuff but those are probably the easiest to find

    thanks!

Great mix of songs tonight, and what is the name of that last ‘jazz daughter’?
And if you will, a few less love songs -just got the let go. Gee wizz, it wasn’t that big a deal really, but your tunes are working up a real melancholy. 🙂

  • Paul Slavens

    nope
    never heard of em
I will check em out this week
    thanks

  • Charisse

Some of my favorite songs whose lyrics I enjoy are, Drops of Jupiter, by Train and, A Pirate Looks at Forty by Jimmy Buffett.

  • Paul Slavens

yo mike, sorry about your love life, nothing a little shot of whiskey wont cure
    her name was Anja Garbarek
this week I am playing songs that people said had great lyrics, unfortunately a lot of em are about stupid love stuff

  • Hey, Paul! Can you play All Along the Watchtower from The Dave Matthew’s Band. I think it’s off an EP or live album. Thanks and love the mix tonight!

  • Bird

    lyrics Primus- Mr. Krinkle

  • Paul Slavens

I will have to look that one up for next week
    but thanks

  • Hey Paul,
How about “Pictures of you” by The Last Goodnight?

  • Christopher Robin

Hey Paul, I loved hearing The Twilight Singers on the air! They are a remarkable band and a great live show. I guessing your friend also mentioned that the front man is Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs fame. He has a solo record that is in a similar vibe to the Twilight stuff but with a little edge added. Also Greg hooked up with Screaming Trees front man Mark Lanegan for a project called The Gutter Twins. it’s a good bit darker than the Twilight stuff and makes good use of Mark’s erie voice along with Greg’s gutteral yells in the background. Good stuff.

I should also mention that Dulli is a great source for unique lyrics. All the stuff above is loaded with content.

    Peace

  • Rich Nicely

play Greg Laswell, the song Your Ghost, on an EP called Covers.

  • Now, that’s what I call self-improvement.

  • Rebecca & François

Thanks for the Jean-Michel Jarre! How about some Antonio Carlos Jobim for next week?

    R&F

  • Okay, if you are playing the Sleigh Bells how about the 5.6.7.8’s “I’m Blue”. They were featured in the movie “Kill Bill”.

  • Paul Slavens

thanks for all the great suggestions
    tune in next week !
    cheers

    J. Paul:
Another great show. Enjoyed the Anja Garbarek, who is indeed the daughter of the renowned jazz saxaphonist Jan Garbarek. He recorded extensively on ECM in the 1980’s with Keith Jarrett, Eberhard Weber, Terje Rypdal, Bill Frissell, Gary Peacock, Pat Metheny. All of those ECM recordings from Norway in the 1980’s were wonderful, mostly mixed by Jan Erik Kongshaug. (especially on vinyl). Here are a couple of Terje’s tunes on Youtube if you aren’t familiar with his wonderful guitar work. Ornen and The Prayer.
