by Anne Bothwell 22 Sep 2010 1:58 PM

If the DSO’s Jaap van Zweden ran into Houston artist Trenton Doyle Hancock at a cocktail party, what would they talk about? Find out tonight at the first State of the Arts conversation at the DMA.

The State of the Arts series opens tonight at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Host Jeff Whittington will guide Jaap van Zweden and Trenton Doyle Hancock through a conversation about their creative processes.

Hancock is a Houston artist working in print, drawing and collage felt paintings. His work was featured in the Whitney Biennial in 2000 and 2002, which is quite an honor for a young artist. His piece From a Legend to a Choir was selected for Cowboys Stadium art program.  Van Zweden just opened his third season conducting the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Imagine the conversation these two would have if they ran into each other at a cocktail party. Then come to Horchow Auditorium at the DMA tonight and actually listen to it.  It starts at 7:30.  Free with museum admission.
