'Lone Star Opera' TV Show on Ice — For Now, Anyway

No, ‘getting put on ice’ doesn’t mean the proposed mini-series peeking backstage at the Fort Worth Opera is going to tour ice-rink arenas in fuzzy costumes. You may recall that North Texas’ own Abernethy Media Productions won a country-wide contest to pitch their six-parter reality TV show to a network executives conference. A distribution agency picked up the show as part of the prize, and the whole story went national.

Well, a look the other day at the Lone Star Opera website found nada. The big 404. AMP’s Russ Johnson confirms that “apparently after all the initial buzz, interest for the program in the actual marketplace was thin at best.”

Too bad, because the whole thing sounded like fun, yeehaws and arias. But Russ emphasizes although the site “was put on ice,” this does not mean Lone Star Opera itself is over. Stay, as they say, tuned.
