Fort Worth Opera: Darren Woods on CEO

by Anne Bothwell 28 May 2010 1:59 PM

Fort Worth Opera’s General Director Darren Woods is Lee Cullum’s guest on CEO. Watch the interview now.

CTA TBD

Fort Worth Opera premieres Before Night Falls tomorrow night. So it’s timely that Lee Cullum’s guest on CEO tonight is  Fort Worth Opera’s  General Director Darren Woods. He takes Lee Cullum backstage during the simultaneous rehearsals for Don Giovanni and Elixir of Love, also on stage this weekend. And he talks about producing world premieres and a successful festival at a time when other opera companies are falling on hard times.

I loved that interview, perhaps the best ever. I so often have zero interest in the business(es) of the industry leaders Cullum is about to interview, but I have learned early on that Lee Cullum could make a cadaver seem intriguing, thoughtful. She can, with a velvet glove, elicit a candid response others would punt. She is absolute royalty in my book. And that Darren Woods? i grew up being dragged to the opera & was once engaged to a woman who worked FOR the DCO…so my quotient was filled early on & after one too many Wagner epics, I screamed ‘NO!’ when anyone asked me if I wanted to go to the opera. Darren Woods’ interview with Cullum changed all that. I now am a huge fan of this enormous talent. What a charming experience it was wtching that interview. Like eating popcorn dripping with butter that wasn’t unhealthy or fattening.

Mr. Darren Woods again thank you for all the performances. It was my pleasure getting to witness them, and it was a wonderful experience to meet you and the opera family. We look forward to seeing you next opera season.

    Yours Truly,
