The Angelika Film Center in Dallas is going to be chock-a-block with North Texas-related movie stuffs this weekend. First up is the Texas Film Round-up, which will show a pair of films with deep North Texas roots. Friday night’s movie is The Big Show, which was filmed in 1936 at the Texas Centennial in Dallas. Then on Saturday, it’s 1962’s State Fair, starring Pat Boone and Ann-Margret. Both films will screen on the mezzanine outside the theater at 8 p.m. Each will be preceded by footage shot in Dallas from the Texas Archive of the Moving Image, including industrial films, advertisements, home movies and other archival footage.

Speaking of – if you have any such footage, the folks at TAMI would love to borrow it so they can digitize it. They’ll give the originals back to you when they’re done. You can drop off what you’ve got Friday beginning at 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

If you consider yourself more of an inside movie watcher, A Surprise in Texas also opens at the Angelika. Peter Rosen’s documentary looks back at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii’s stunning victory.
