Pop-Up Gallery? We'll Show You A Drive-Up Gallery

by Jerome Weeks 19 Apr 2010 4:16 PM

We hit the sidewalks for Dallas Art Dealer Association’s annual Gallery Walk, despite the threat-of-rain-that-turned-into-real-rain. Amid all the sportscars and Mercedes parked along Dragon Street in the Design District, there was this, an Enterprise rental in front of PDNB Gallery. It was the only gallery on the entire walk with its own entrance elevator for patrons. You step on the truck’s liftgate and ascend into the gallery. Classy.Lucky for University of Texas at Arlington photography teacher Scott Hilton (and 500X member) and his students, it wasn’t broiling hot out.

We hit the sidewalks for the Dallas Art Dealer Association’s annual Gallery Walk, despite the threat-of-rain-that-turned-into-real-rain. Amid all the sportscars and Mercedes parked along Dragon Street in the Design District, there was this, an Enterprise rental truck in front of PDNB Gallery.

So it was the only gallery in the Walk with its own entrance elevator for patrons. You step on the truck’s liftgate and ascend into the gallery. Classy.

University of Texas at Arlington photography teacher Scott Hilton (a 500X member) and his students also rented a generator to power the gallery’s interior lights. Definitely an inventive addition to the Walk — it drew a steady stream of people.

Oh, and some of the photos inside were pretty cool, too. The FOCUS student group is made up of (l to r) Hilton, who is the faculty advisor, a customer in the truck who doesn’t actually belong to the group, Julia Cooper, Justin Bolle, Amanda Glendening and Ericka Schwan.
