Hey Paul, it’s been a few weeks, but I have some messages from Richard. Your blog title confused me because it says Feb. 4 not 14th. But I get that it is tonight’s blog.

Richard and the fans are asking for:

    Eloquence by Jason Falkner
You’re Not Alone(Anymore) by The Traveling Wilburys

If you need these tracks let me know and I will try to find them

    Thanks as always,
    Steve

  • Hey, hope you arent lonely on Valentines night
    well its good company here
lets listen to and share great music

  • Stephen Douglas

    Paul,

I’m working on a few other things from the last few weeks.

    Can you also play:

The “Smile CD” version of “Good Vibrations” or
“Very Best Years” by The Grays

    Thank you!

    • Cliff

I’ll second that Very Best Years recommendation! Cool track.

  • Regan

You’re blog is showing February 4th. Thought tonight’s show wasn’t up when I first glanced at it.

  • Stephen Douglas

    Paul,

I know this is a lot but it’s been awhile.

“To One In Paradise” by The Alan Parsons Project

  • Stephen Becker

Hey, all – the blog date should be fixed now. That may or may not have been your friendly blog moderator’s (i.e.: me) fault. Anyhoo, problem fixed.

    • probably a problem by your trusty host
      I am a horrid typist

  • Got the old stereo up and running! HK440xvi. yup it’s old.
    Show sounds great!
    Cheers.

    • listening to new music with an old school rig
      wicked

  • Stephen Becker

Wondering if the lack of comments tonight is a product of the listeners’ hands being otherwise occupied here on Valentine’s Day.

    • that is what I choose to believe

  • Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show – greatest guitar solo?!?!?!?! Are you serious? Where are those Kermit, Texas nurses when you need ’em?

The following songs contain the two greatest guitar solos in all of rock:
    1. “Reeling in the Years”, Steely Dan (w/ solo by one Elliot Randall and specified as his personal favorite by some guy named Jimmy Page);
    2. “Doctor – My Eyes …”, Jackson Browne, w/ solo by one Jesse Ed Davis (RIP I believe).

So, how about setting the record straight by playing both of the aforementioned?

  • blixen

please play your favorite INXS song

  • Loved the Susannah McCorkle, Blind Lemon Jefferson and maybe that out-of-character Rush piece too, by the way.

  • Kay

Clannad? Really? Haven’t heard them in a decade or more.

  • Regan

I’d like to hear something by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

  • Kelly H

Best lead guitar solo: Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number.

    • cant argue with that
but really, did you check out that guitar solo on the Dr Hook Song
      so perfect
      and so short

  • OK – I’ve really got somethin’ for you now: over the years (most recently this past week) I’ve come across a number of glowing references to recordings put out by the Houston Kashmere High School Stage Band in the early seventies. I’ve never heard them but I’m very curious about their work; you can read more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmere_Stage_Band.

I don’t know how easy it will be to come up with these recordings – I’ll look into it some more and get back to you if I can be of assistance; maybe you already have their work in the station “archives”?

    • yikes
I bet I will need some help on that one
but it sounds like an interesting story
      cheers

    • Mike W

These are pretty easy to find. I bought it at Good Records in Dallas but you can get it on Amazon as well. Great stuff, amazing players for high school age. It’s mostly funk and jazz instrumentals, great version of Take Five.

    • Dan

The Fort Worth Public Library has the CD with numerous recordings by The Kashmere Stage Band. Play Sly instead. Or the Paschal High School Jazz Band 1962-1968 The Phil Hewett years.

  • yep clannad
I havent ever really listened to them as I am not a big Celtic fan
but that was real purty wasnt it?
thats why I like taking suggestions, its better than relying on my own personal taste and knowledge

  • Excellent Rickie Lee Jones selection! What an erratic career she’s had – full of wonderful work and then “poof” – she virtually disappears.

Thanks for the James Hand piece too, as well as the additional insight into the balance of his work.

  • Speaking of brilliant but erratic careers, how about giving us some Fiona Apple?

  • Cliff

Nice show tonight! Thanks for the old school Rush! Can’t ever get too much of that album. I also loved the freaky turntablism in that Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra track.

    • yeah that was a cool turn on
not sure who it was that first suggested Daniel Pemberton to me
it was about 3-4 weeks ago I think

I love 2112 for sentimental reasons

  • And I’m liking this new Jimmy Hendrix.

Previously I’ve thought he was way over-rated and living primarily off of the promotional skills of his record label, but I really like the piece you selected!

  • thanks for tuning in writing in and supporting the show
the setlist will magically appear as soon as the show is over
    danke
    and guten nacht

  • chip

I liked the James Hand too. On the matter of Texas-styled musicians, I can’t recall but maybe you’ve played Slaid Cleaves sometime over the years? Or Mary Gauthier?

  • If I can slip in another reference to great rock guitar work, how about Keith Richards and/or Brian Jones’s in “19th Nervous Breakdown”.

The Stones have put out some re-mastered digital recordings of much of their previous work that brings out subtleties lost in the limitations of vinyl on the original releases, so I’d really be up for a remastered “19th Nervous Breakdown”.

  • Please stop the boycott of all the Dallas musicians on the Big list, and all Post-bands music. Thanks.

  • Elaine

I’ve had Eaton Lake Tonics “Business Gets Bad” stuck in my head for three days now and would love to hear you play it on your next show. Also, I miss hearing XTC and anything from Apple Venus Volume One would be really keen! Thanks- Elaine, a happy new member of KXT 91.7!

  • Triple B

Just wondering if you could play some Eels . Fresh feelings or Souljacker part 1. Thank You Paul. Long Live Frank Zappa
