R.I.P., ROBERT GRAHAM: It has been busy couple of days for deaths in the arts. First, Harold Pinter on Christmas Eve, then Dale Wasserman, who wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, on Sunday. Those were followed Monday by jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, who collaborated with Fort Worth native Ornette Coleman.

Add to that list sculptor Robert Graham, who died on Saturday. His work is mostly connected to Southern California, as he designed the ceremonial gateway to the Los Angeles Coliseum for the 1984 Summer Olympics. But his career got a huge jump start in Dallas in 1972, when his first solo museum show was staged in the Dallas Museum of Art. The museum still has a number of his color etchings in its permanent collection.

WE’VE GOT LOTS AND LOTS OF LISTS: In case you have missed them, both the Morning News and Star-Telegram have been rolling through their year-end lists for the arts. When viewed side-by-side, they didn’t agree on much — three shows make both visual arts lists, while there was zero overlap among their top 10 local concerts. Of course, that could all change next year.
