If you are a live music fan, this is pretty much your week.  A rundown of what’s on tap:

Tonight: Weezer, Angels and Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club at Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie

Wednesday: Janet Jackson at the American Airlines Center

Thursday: Ben Folds at the Palladium Ballroom; Jason Mraz at Nokia

Friday: R.E.M. with opening act Dallas’ Old 97s at Nokia; Ray Lamontagne at the Majestic Theatre

Saturday: Edgefest 18 featuring Stone Temple Pilots, Fort Worth’s the Toadies and others at Pizza Hut Park; Alanis Morissette at Nokia; Willie Nelson at Billy Bob’s

Sunday: Tina Turner at the AAC; Randy Travis at Nokia.

There’s pretty much something for everyone in there somewhere., and I am having a tough time remembering such an action-packed week. If I had to pick one show to go to, I say gimmie Weezer. Here’s hoping they’re back to playing stuff off of Pinkerton.

I was driving home while listening to KERA as usual. Your feature announcing events around town just floored me!!! I think the announcer is named Judy McScorry. I know I butchered her name and may have it mistaken her for someone else altogether but, to the point. She anounced that “Super Bowl superstar Janet Jackson” will be preforming tonight. WHAT IS THIS!!! Janet Jackson is not a footbal player therefore she CAN NOT be a Super Bowl superstar. She was a performer.

Also, Janet Jackson was a “superstar” long before the Super Bowl fiasco. Let it rest!! I expect this kind of reporting from the other radio stations I’ve let go since solely listening to KERA. If I want to hear this kind of mess I might as well listen to the urban stations who openly call Black women “B’s and H’s”.

I was really disappointed with this and expect more from your station.

correction: the reporter of the Janet Jackson performance was Gini Mascurro.

  • Actually, it’s Mascorro.

Anyhoo, did anyone out there see Girl Talk at the Palladium last night? I got back into town too late to head over there. Details, please!

Meanwhile, we’ll see y’all at the Granada tonight for Gibby & Co….
