Dick Sutcliffe, who came up with the idea of using stop-motion animation to teach religious parables to children, has died in Dallas at age 90. The resulting TV show was Davey and Goliath, which was in production from the late 1950s to the ’70s. The New York Times obit says he moved here in 1969 and worked for SMU and the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Sutcliffe became the first executive producer of the series after the Lutheran Church asked him to figure out how to use the new medium of television. A documentary about the show was made in 2003.

His was my favorite program as a child. My children watched it and now my grandchildren. I never knew his name until today. Thank you Dick Sutcliffe!
