This Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Dallas’ Granada Theater hosts a free evening of brand-new DVD screenings, starting with Amy Winehouse’s I Told You I Was Trouble: Live in London, followed by U2’s Joshua Tree 20th Anniversary and Nirvana: Unplugged in New York. I Told You I Was Trouble features all of the songs from Back to Black, the album that broke her in the U.S., and if you’re deep into the Winehouse funk, it also includes her ever-pleasin’ covers of Toots & The Maytals’ Monkey Man and The Zutons’ Valerie, and a fair number of hits from Frank, the debut album that short-listed her for the 2004 Mercury Prize and snagged her an Ivor Novello Songwriting Award back home in the U.K.
Considering how her tabloid appearances sadly ward off the sucker-punch of that voice and outnumber her once-renowned live appearances that actually went according to plan – unlike the first night of her U.K. tour last week – here’s one foolproof way you can catch La Winehouse in a live setting without the worry of having to demand a refund.
